Artists Statement The constant refinement of my drawing skills is the cornerstone of my work Grace of movement, compositon and overall asthetics is what my art is about. My medium is paper. When I look at papers whether in a magazine, wrapping papers or books I become inspired to created images from what I see the paper can be. I started out painting and drawing. I was interested in exploring the use of planes and shape to describe form. I was also collecting a variety of papers. Then, while at the L.A. County Museum I saw the collage cut outs called "Jazz" by Henri Matisse. It was then that it occurred to me that by specifically cutting my papers, I could create the form. At first my pieces were flat and two dimensional. But when I introduced a middle or third tone my images sprung to life with depth and dimension. Currently I work on wood surfaces, preferably old doors. Since my work is so protected by the finishing, the viewer is invited to feel the surface. I want to speak to the view not just through sight but tactally. | ||
